“Physicians take time out of their day to educate – that’s really why I fell in love with this program.”

Our core faculty is comprised of physicians trained in family medicine, internal medicine, and pediatrics who are focused on resident education and well-being.

Rotational faculty are predominantly Hattiesburg Clinic physicians who recognize our residents as colleagues and potential partners.

Thank you for taking the time to discover what makes our residency program unique.

Forrest General Hospital is a 547-bed regional hospital. It is the only Level II Trauma Center in the area, serving 19 counties. The Emergency Department averages over 90,000 visits per year. Over 2,300 deliveries are performed annually.

Immediately adjacent to the hospital is the Hattiesburg Clinic, a physician-owned and led 400+ physician/provider multi-specialty clinic, where the Family Medicine Residency Clinic (FMRC) is housed, and where most subspecialty rotations are performed. FGH and Hattiesburg Clinic offer nearly every diagnostic and treatment modality available, and provide a collegial atmosphere that encourages resident interaction.

Forrest General Hospital and Hattiesburg Clinic jointly participate in one of the top-ranked Accountable Care Organizations in the country.

The University of Southern Mississippi is walking distance from the hospital. It offers Division I sports, cultural events, and academic opportunities. Nearby William Carey University has similar offerings, and also houses a College of Osteopathic Medicine.

The area offers ample outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, boating, and biking. The Longleaf Trace, a paved rails-to-trails biking project, stretches 43 miles.

As you browse through our site, we hope you capture the sense of commitment we have to providing an ideal training environment for our residents, and the best possible care to our community.

About
Forrest General

Our hospital is the flagship facility of the Forrest Health system, providing regional health services to a 19-county area.

We are a level II trauma center, offering 24-hour surgical subspecialty coverage.

Besides Forrest General Hospital, Forrest Health consists of multiple smaller community hospitals, as well as Pine Grove Behavioral Health and Addiction Services, a world-renowned 88-bed chemical dependency and psychiatric unit.

“It is rewarding to see a resident
grow as a physician, then watch
their patients visibly respond to this...

I enjoy hearing patients say how
wonderful our residents are, and
how much they trust them."

-Dr. Kati M. Karcher
