William P. Fortenberry, MD Chief Resident
I completed a bachelor’s degree in Biological engineering at Mississippi State University and worked for a year as an engineer for Halliburton. I began medical school at UMMC in the summer of 2011 and graduated in 2015. I served five years of active duty in the United States Navy after medical school. During that time I completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth as well as flight surgeon training at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute in Pensacola, FL before serving over a three year tour with a United States Marine Corps tilt-rotor aviation squadron in Jacksonville, NC. I am blessed to married to the most beautiful and amazing woman I have ever met; and we have three beautiful children. The Lord has blessed us beyond measure, and we are very grateful to finally be home and have the ability to serve others here in our home state and community. When I’m not at the hospital, I enjoy hunting, fishing, camping, spending time with family, and playing piano.
